Oasis Air New Single And Announce Tour DatesManchester's Gallagher Brothers Return To Form? The new Oasis single The Shock Of The Lightning has been aired on British radio at 8am and details of a new tour have been announced.
A new release by Oasis, the biggest band of the nineties in Britain, always stirs up massive hype and causes dicussions as to whether the new songs are any good and if they are still relevant to todays music scene. Britpop LegendsAfter reaching the dizzy height of selling out two shows at Knebworth in 1995 the daggers have been out for a band who were at the forefront of the zeitgeist happening in Britain at the time. The rise of Britpop blew away all the American rock bands who had taken over at the time and people were discovering a new cultural identity. For a band from Manchester their songs were just what British music needed at the time. Cast as spiritual bearers of the flame of The Stone Roses with more than a dose of The Beatles thrown in, there first two albums redefined music and became classics that are still revered today. Fall From Grace?Since then they have been subjected to close scrutiny and been accused of just rehashing the same formula over and over again. To be fair they released some poor albums, especially Standing On The Shoulder Of Giants, but these releases included songs which are still played today. It seems like the knives were out and in true British fashion the knoves were out for a band who they had once admired. So to the new single The Shock Of The Lightning. Once again its recognisable Oasis but for once they have lifted it up from the more dirgy stuff they tended to fall into and sound like they have fallen in love with rock n' roll again. A new drummer seems to have revitalised them and the two choruses are guaranteed to get everyone singin along at the forthcoming gigs. It is a song which could easily have come of any album they have made before, albeit with a bright shiny production. It was recorded pretty quickly and it sounds like it, it is a raw rock n' roll song with added sheen. It is more than capable of standing alongside classics such as Live Forever and Go Let It Out. Hitting The Road AgainTour dates have been announced with the band playing arenas in all the major cities of Britain apart from Manchester. Two dates in each city starting on October 7 and finishing November 5. The album, Dig Out Your Soul, will be released just prior to the tour. It will be interesting to see what type of setlist they will play now they have reached their seventh album and whether it will be the same few new songs followed by the classics from 1994 - 1995. Either way it will be guaranteed to be one of the best gigs of the year. The one place where Oasis have never failed is on the live circuit.
